Hurricane Dolly Relief
Dolly
has blown by, but she made a mess of people’s lives,
people’s livelihood and property. While several church
buildings have sustained significant damage and loss, the
first concern of the Valley pastors and Elders was the need
for housing and food. As of August 5, 1.500 homes are
still flooded. Response workers are still trying to
reach some of the affected residents. Loss of power
for a week or more in some areas resulted in spoiled food.
Loss of AC added to health concerns for elderly residents.
Crop damage is staggering and is one aspect of long term
recovery concerns since it has far reaching impact on the
area economy and employment. To date the storm caused
damages are estimated at upwards of $750 million.
The
Presbyterian Churches of the Valley Cluster of Mission
Presbytery will be taking up a special offering for
Presbyterian Disaster Relief in the aftermath of Hurricane
Dolly.
It is the hope of the
Presbyterian Churches in the Rio Grande Valley that the
entire Presbytery would consider a Special Sunday offering
during one of the next 3 Sundays. The Stewardship Division
of Mission Presbytery supports this request and encourages
your participation.
Gifts should
be made payable to “Mission Presbytery” with “Hurricane
Dolly Relief” in the memo section. Forward to: Mission
Presbytery, 7201 Broadway, #303, San Antonio, TX
78209. For more information click on the "Special
Offering" link below.
